Telstar had 8 students participate along with other Oxford County high school students in a rural workforce medical boot camp at UMA as a coordination project between two of our THS student pathway programs: Extended Learning Opportunities or ELO program (coordinated by Carrie Lynch) and Jobs for Maine Graduates or JMG program (coordinated by Chyanna Millett-Cordwell) and the Rural Aspirations Project. WABI-TV out of Bangor did a nice op piece about the students to share their experience.

The Telstar Math Team drove to UMF today to compete in the regional high school math meet. They are a small but committed group who worked hard and well together! The unique make up of this team gives MSAD#44 a lot to be proud of. THS student Davon De Gruttola is the lone high school representative leading his younger teammates. TMS is represented by Henry Harrop, Mikayla Russell, Addison Lynch, and Sybil Lafaver. Coached and guided by THS Math teacher Dave Lynch, they are building the foundation for a competitive program for the future. Congratulations to you all!

I was asked to participate in some of the Think Tank presentations today at TFA. This has become one of my favorite opportunities as an administrator to see the culminating work done by these 9th graders. For the past two months they have been working collaboratively, researching, drafting prototypes to solve a problem they have identified and creating a digital presentation. These students presented to a panel of local community members, school board members, staff totaling 15 adults to present to! They did an amazing job. Their topics, solutions and learning were impressive, creative, and very realistic. These projects ranged from helping with homelessness in the Philippines, regrowing the coral reefs off of Ecuador, reducing plastic pollution in Brazil, and reducing overfishing off the coast of Nigeria. I was not personally able to participate in the first session, but in closing circle heard some great feedback from those four presentations as well. Job well done by the students and the staff down at TFA!

Here are some helpful tips you can review with your student at home. The bus drivers will also be going over these reminders with their riders. Thank you!
